°C = (°F - 32) × 5/9°F = °C × 9/5 + 32Fahrenheit. Invented by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. Standard in the US and some territories. Water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F.
Celsius. Invented by Anders Celsius in 1742. International standard used in most of the world. Water freezes at 0 °C and boils at 100 °C.
The only point where both scales match is −40°. Both Fahrenheit and Celsius read exactly −40 at that value. This happens because of the difference in degree size (1 °C = 1.8 °F) and their distinct origin points.
